Surrounded by the stunning Cotswold countryside, Broadmere is a contemporary family home designed by Adrian James Architects, to sit in harmony with its traditional surroundings whilst delivering modern, open-plan living in a sustainable and energy-efficient way.
Built using locally sourced materials the home retains a barn-like feel with its steeply pitched roof and open-plan interior. The light and airy atmosphere inside is achieved through the strategic use of our contemporary range of Neo Rooflights, whose unique frameless design and concealed motors give the appearance of looking through a sheet of glass. Outside the low-profile design and edge-to-edge glazing mean the rooflights sit flush with the curved roofline, ensuring an unobtrusive aesthetic that met all planning requirements.
This project gallery showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that define our high-quality property renovations. Each project is a testament to our commitment to transforming spaces into stunning, functional environments tailored to individual design visions. Explore how contemporary detailing blends seamlessly with traditional forms to create inspiring architecture.
“Described by Adrian James Architects as ‘a serious bash at a new rural archetype’, Broadmere is a triumphant example of contemporary design in harmony with its traditional surroundings. Views and sunlight are maximised, carbon footprint minimised, with sensible, economical methods.”
To maximise the amount of light entering into the property, Adrian James Architects sought the guidance of The Rooflight Co’s technical design team, who advised on linking rooflights together, providing double the volume of light into the space within. The linking detail was aligned with the vertical lines created by the standing seam detailing at the cill to create a cohesive design solution.
The Neo Rooflight offers the perfect balance of form and function; unobtrusive and elegant on the outside and frameless on the inside. Utilising high-quality materials, including the patented Thermoliner, all finer details have been thoughtfully designed to perform to the highest standards. The Neo Rooflight achieves a whole window U-Value of 1.4 W/m²K in accordance with BS EN ISO 10077-2 and is UKCA marked in accordance with BS EN 14351-1. With a light transmittance of 71 per cent and a G-value of 0.53, the glazing provides optimum performance for properties throughout the United Kingdom.
Internally, the rooflights sit effortlessly amongst the crisp white plasterboard thanks to the concealed motors in the Neo’s design. This maximises the viewable area, welcoming an abundance of natural light and allowing for effective management of ventilation in the home. Externally, the frame is polyester powder-coated to RAL 7022, complementing the locally sourced grey slate tiles.
The exceptional performance of the Neo Rooflights contributed to the home’s sustainable qualities. Inside, they offer unobstructed views and optimal ventilation, while outside, they blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment. In the end, the Neo Rooflights helped transform Broadmere House into a bright, modern, and sustainable home that not only respects its beautiful Cotswold surroundings but also enhances the living experience within. The project is a perfect example of how careful design, high-performance materials, and thoughtful integration can create a truly harmonious and efficient living space.
